SCORPION HOUSE

Completed in 2021, this project consists of the renovation and expansion of a single-family residence in Venice, California. Inspired by the form and movement of a scorpion, the design organizes the home around a sculptural composition of intersecting geometries, elevated volumes, and dramatic structural elements.

A concrete base anchors the project to the site, while a cantilevered second-story volume appears to float above. Supported by a series of angled, intersecting columns and enclosed with expansive glazing, the upper-level studio creates a light-filled workspace overlooking the property and pool house below.

A sloping diagonal bridge connects the primary residence to the new studio addition, linking previously separate portions of the property while reinforcing the design's dynamic, spiraling form. The result is a highly expressive residential composition that merges architecture, structure, and landscape into a unified living environment.
