El Medio: Palisades Fire Rebuild

Originally completed by David Hertz Architects as a contemporary residence overlooking the Pacific, the home was destroyed in the 2025 Palisades Fire. David Hertz Architects is now leading its reconstruction, incorporating enhanced fire-resilient detailing, non-combustible materials, defensible space strategies, and high-performance building systems while preserving the original architectural vision.

Taking full advantage of its sloped site, the residence provides multiple scenic vistas. A dedicated Martial Arts Dojo features floor-to-ceiling sliding glass walls that frame dramatic views over the cascading waterfall and infinity pool to the Pacific Palisades below. The outdoor terrace and primary bedroom suites above enjoy expansive views of the surrounding landscape.

This project is part of our ongoing fire rebuild practice. Learn more about our approach to wildfire-resilient design and rebuilding in Southern California on our Fire Resilience page.
