Mandeville Canyon
Nestled within the natural landscape of Mandeville Canyon, this residence was remodeled as a study in the integration of architecture, environment, and contemporary living. Sited along a semi-private drive, the home is carefully positioned to maximize privacy, natural light, and views of the surrounding landscape.
The design is organized around a seamless relationship between interior and exterior spaces. Expansive glazing, skylights, and open circulation allow daylight to penetrate deep into the home, while framing views of the gardens and canyon beyond. A restrained palette of natural materials is paired with refined contemporary detailing, creating spaces that are both warm and sophisticated.
The main living level features an open-plan layout, anchored by a sculptural floating staircase, a fireplace, and a wraparound balcony that extends the living experience outdoors. Below, private family spaces are connected through a continuation of the home's material language and a strong visual connection to the landscape. Throughout, the project reflects a balance of environmental sensitivity, spatial clarity, and craftsmanship that characterizes David Hertz Architects’ approach.
