mesa house

This project is an addition and extensive renovation of an existing single-family home located on a wooded down-slope site in Santa Monica Canyon, wrapped in Ipe wood fences surrounded by tropical gardens, mature sycamore trees & and bamboo walls.

The client envisioned their residence as having a “contemporary tree-house” feel, which would be integrated with the natural setting of their canyon property. The entrance of this secluded oasis is from above, amidst a canopy of trees that hides the property from the street. The home is detailed with sustainably harvested tropical hardwoods and employs green design principles throughout.

The environmentally conscious design included natural milk paints, Ipe wood front door, decks, & giant sliders. Seamlessly flowing decks, bridges & balconies integrate lush gardens into creative living spaces. The dining area and cozy retreat spots are surrounded by sliding walls of glass that invite the outdoors in. The project includes a wooden floating staircase, spectacular front bridge entrance & separate guest house w/ bath & oversized garage.
