OJAI ROOTS

Ojai Roots is an organic farm project on a 186-acre site. The design encompassed a comprehensive master plan, including primary infrastructure, water supply, fire suppression systems, and a dedicated fire access road. David Hertz Architects designed a produce packing barn that doubles as a future event and art venue, dubbed the “Art Barn.”

The project involved remodeling the existing ranch house, integrating solar power with emergency backup, large automated greenhouses, and an integrated stormwater management system for irrigation and ecological restoration.

The water strategy included silting basins, dry creek beds that become active seasonal water-flow channels, and a network of retention basins and ponds designed for habitat restoration, groundwater recharge, and dedicated fire suppression water storage.

At its core, it’s a fully integrated, regenerative agricultural vision designed with fire resilience in mind.
